Indian Wild Papper (Vitex trifolia)

  • For centuries, chasteberry has been used to treat many hormone-related gynecologic conditions. Over the past 50 years, 30 European trials of chasteberry (mostly uncontrolled or unblinded) have reported improvement of menstrual and menstruation-related disorders.
  • In clinical trials for the treatment of PMS, chasteberry reduced some symptoms, especially breast pain or tenderness, edema, constipation, irritability, depressed mood, anger, and headache.
  • Results of a clinical study involving 96 women with fertility disorders (38 women with secondary amenorrhea, 31 with luteal insufficiency, and 27 with idiopathic infertility) suggested that patients receiving chasteberry achieved pregnancy more readily than did women in the placebo group.

    • active compound of Isatis tinctoria, antiallergic agent, significantly inhibits DNA replication in cancer cells,
    • stops bleeding,
    • astringent, heals wounds,
    • leaves contain an alkaloid known as tryptanthrin,1 which is strongly inhibitory to the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme,
    • it is theorized to be largely responsible for the anti-inflammatory action of Isatis, indirubin, a compound found in Isatis root, has undergone screening for anti-cancer activity. Indirubin is thought to inhibit DNA replication in neoplastic cells without causing significant marrow suppression,
    • root extracts have been used to treat patients with solid tumors and  leukemia, a traditional usage that led to purification of the component compound indirubin, review of several published trials from China found oral administration of 150-200 mg of purified indirubin per day led to remission in 60 percent of patients with chronic myelocytic leukaemia,
    • isatis root was a constituent of the botanical formula PC-SPES, which demonstrated a therapeutic effect against prostate cancer in preliminary trials.
